Gloversville, NY – The Arc Lexington is proud to announce that Dr. Kevin Cope will receive a Knight to Shine: Bridging Community Connections Award this year for his pioneering efforts in raising awareness about people with disabilities in the area. The award will be presented at The Lexington Foundation’s Night Out Gala on Friday, September 20, 2024 at the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts, 2736 Route 30, Gloversville, NY.

As medical director at The Arc Lexington, Dr. Cope oversees the medical wellbeing of more than 1,300 people supported by the agency. He joined the agency in 2016, and with over 32 years of experience, has been influential in assisting the nursing and clinical teams, as well exploring opportunities to improve Lexington’s operations. Throughout the pandemic, Dr. Cope was part of the Lexington leadership team reviewing the impact Covid was having on people, and creating policies and procedures that were implemented agency wide.

This year, Dr. Cope, as part of the leadership team of Fulmont Community Church, spearheaded efforts to bring Night to Shine to Fulton County providing hundreds of people with disabilities with a prom night that they will never forget. The event is held on the same night in communities nationwide in collaboration with the Tim Tebow Foundation. Night to Shine in Fulton County was an effort between the Fulmont Community Church and the Foothills Worship Center.

“Dr. Cope has embodied the mission of The Arc Lexington beyond the parameters of his job as our Medical Director. He has made it a priority to highlight the importance that people of any ability be able to participate in the community and enjoy the traditions and activities of their peers,” said Shaloni Winston, CEO of The Arc Lexington. “The list of the amazing work Dr. Cope does in the community and beyond is boundless, but you would never know it by talking with him. We are honored to have him on our team and honored to be recognizing him for this award. I don’t know anyone else who is more deserving.”

In addition to The Arc Lexington, Dr. Cope serves as Medical Director of Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care; on the Board of Directors of Catholic Charities of Fulton and Montgomery Counties, and the HFM Prevention Council; and on the NY Department of Health Working Group for Buprenorphine Use. He is on the teaching staff for Albany Medical College, the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Binghamton University, SUNY Upstate Medical School, SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Utica, and Le Moyne College.

Lexington’s 2024 Night Out gala theme is heading Back to the Ranch, and will immerse guests into the world of the west with themed food, specialty cocktails, food by Union Hall, raffles and silent auction items.
